Native Instruments Annuncia Traktor Control S4 Dj System

The new all-in-one Traktor controller from Native Instruments has been announced, with release slated for next month. Native Instruments have added the traktor loop recorder which is located just beneath the Snap, Master & Quant control keys at the heart of the mixer and lets you record your track live using a 4 bar up to a 32 bar loop. Just touch a knob and watch Traktor respond on the displays - smart views, pop-up panels, filters, and effects values are instantly revealed by touch-sensitive knobs. The S5 DJ controller boasts an original, touch sensitive, high resolution, full colour display adding to the DJ Equipment experience and enabling that music connection from the DJ to the crowd.

The release of the Stems audio format a few months ago saw a leap forward in digital DJing, as Native Instruments introduced the ability to control four separate tracks of a song (vocals, melody, bass and drums generally speaking) with the advent of a Traktor controller. Adapted from the hardware display version for TRAKTOR KONTROL S8, S5, and D2, the in-app Stem View provides a clear, color-coded overview of a track's four Stems - granting all TRAKTOR DJs in-depth, multi-track control over a Stem track's elements.

On each side of the loop buttons there are another two rotary knobs contrary to others on the mixer and effects because they click into position as you turn them for accurately picking loop points and changing the loop duration in compliance with the Traktor dj software. This was a bit of a leap of faith from the Native Instruments guys as they were trying to define what they consider the future of DJ decks. And you can adjust a track's beatgrid in real-time on the S5 - the Beatgrid View instantly reveals your grids for easy editing directly from the displays.

The robust touch-sensitive knobs control TRAKTOR software on the two displays so you stay focused on the mix. The Traktor Kontrol S5's large color LCDs also allow you to set your laptop aside, providing you with the feel of standalone hardware and a better connection to your audience. Saying all that though, the S5 is a very well made bit of DJ kit, and what it does, it does very well.

The S5 is the baby brother to the flagship S8; with some of the same functionality, but stripped down to a compact and roadworthy unit.

The S5 is also loaded with touch-sensitive controls that can instantly trigger pop-up views, panels, playback, and quick access to two customizable FX units with over 30 studio quality effects plus Macro FX. The touch strips on the S5 provide tactile control over track position, pitch bend, and more, all of which adds to the S5' touch-and-see workflow delivering a unique, multi-sensory DJ experience.

You might need another inch which might have to be added to the total depth, for something like the S8, that would be too much, but the S5 which has a smaller frame, would be fine gaining one more inch in depth. The fifth edition in Native Instruments TRAKTOR Series, the KONTROL S5 is a portable 4-deck professional DJ controller that is built and ready for Stems, NI' multi-channel audio format for creative-style DJing.

Along with this, the S5 includes 2 customisable FX units plus 30 studio quality effects to get the most out your favourites tracks. The Stems-ready S5 enables the user to perform tracks like never before, utilising the multi-channel audio format. This is a much more light weight solution however is practically twice the cost as the Traktor flight case. But in that space, you get the stuff you've probably envied on the bigger Traktor controllers (the S8, and its one-deck-at-a-time counterpart the D2).
